Protecting your Email's: ThunderBird

Posted on 18:30 by Unknown
I guess you don't want other people who have access to your computer — legitimate access, of course, because they're family, friends and colleagues, for instance — to have access to the emails it holds as well.

Yes in this article that what exactly we are going to discuss about how to protect your email in Mozilla ThunderBird. This article provides you with basic and simple steps which you can perform on your own

If this is true you have, of course, set up a distinct Windows account for each user so that everybody can have their own wallpaper, and so that emails and documents are kept separate. This is very well and good, but it is not enough to protect your emails.
Keep Your Email Private in Windows

To keep your emails — even as files on the disk — private from the eyes of other users:
  •  Locate the folder in which your email program keeps mail.
  •  How to Find Your Mozilla Thunderbird Profile Directory
  • Click on it with the right mouse button in Windows Explorer.
  • Select Sharing and Security... from the menu.
  • Go to the Sharing tab.
  • Make sure Make this folder private is checked under Local sharing and security.
  • If this option is grayed out, see below for options.
  • Click OK.

These steps can be followed for Mozilla ThunderBird installed in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Known Issue: Unable start ThunderBird

Posted on 14:00 by Unknown

"Thunderbird is already running, but not responding. To open a new window you must close the existing thunderbird process, or restart your system."

Now in this article we are going to learn How to troubleshoot issue with Mozilla ThunderBird starting . This article is gives you simple and adequate information with basic steps which you can perform on your own.

Which, of course, you have already tried — to no avail. If Mozilla Thunderbird refuses to start and complains about another instance or a profile in use instead, the cause may be a stale profile lock left from a crashing instance of Mozilla Thunderbird, for example. You can remove the file that locks your profile and try to get Mozilla Thunderbird starting again.
Fix Mozilla Thunderbird Not Starting

To help Mozilla Thunderbird start when it displays "Thunderbird is already running, but not responding" or opens the profile manager stating your profile is "in use":

    * Make sure no Mozilla Thunderbird process is running:
o In Windows, kill all "thunderbird" processes in Task Manager.
o Using Mac OS X, force quit all "thunderbird" processes in Activity Monitor.

    * Open your Mozilla Thunderbird profile folder.

    * Windows: (Windows XP and Windows 7)
          o Delete the "parent.lock" file.

    * Mac OS X:
          o Open Terminal.
o Type "cd " at the prompt.
o Grab the icon in the Finder's folder title and drag it to the Terminal window, dropping it there; the line will now read something like "cd /Users/me/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default".
          o Hit Enter.
          o Type "rm -f .parentlock".
          o Hit Enter again.

Deleting mail without opening Mail

Posted on 09:30 by Unknown
As soon as you click on a message in Mozilla Thunderbird, it opens. That's nice and convenient, of course, but it can also be revealing and annoying.

If you want to delete a message, you have to highlight it ,lick on it first. There's no way around that, but you can disable the pane that opens messages as soon as you do that. Without that message pane, it's fast and easy to delete emails sans opening them.

Exactly, that is what we are going to learn in this article. that is how to delete a Message Without Opening it First in Mozilla Thunderbird

To remove an email in Mozilla Thunderbird without opening it:

    * Click on the message with the right mouse button (or hold down Ctrl while clicking on a Mac).
    * Select Delete Message from the menu.

To delete multiple messages in one go, you can hide the preview pane:

    * Select View | Layout | Message Pane from the menu so that the item is not checked.
    * Highlight the desired message or messages in the message list.
    * Press Del.

Of course, you can enable the message pane again using the same menu command as above.

These steps can work for Mozilla ThunderBird installed in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Changing emails view Unread, Recent etc

Posted on 23:00 by Unknown
Folders are a fine way to organize emails. In Mozilla Thunderbird, you can create as many as you want, and even each account can have its own set.

The more folders, the unwieldier the list of folders, though. Wouldn't it be great if you could somehow limit the list to a few favorite mailboxes — easily accessible no matter how deep down in your folder tree they may be? Or a list of just the folders with unread messages? Or recently visited mailboxes maybe?

Fortunately, Mozilla Thunderbird can do all of that; elegantly. And that was exactly we are going to learn in this article, that is how to view only Unread, Recent or Favorite Folders in Mozilla Thunderbird

To have Mozilla Thunderbird show you only a subset of all your email folders:

    * Select "View" | "Folders" from the menu followed by

o "Unread" for all folders containing unread messages.

o "Favorite" for folders marked favorites and
+ (You can change a folder's favorite status by clicking on it with the right mouse button and selecting Favorite Folder.)

o "Recent" for folders you recently used.

To return to the full expandable list of folders:

    * Select "View" | "Folders" | "All from Mozilla Thunderbird's main window menu".

These steps can be followed for Mozilla ThunderBird installed in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Changing sent mail folder in Thunderbird

Posted on 18:30 by Unknown

Mozilla Thunderbird can automatically keep a copy of every message you send.

By default it will place that copy in the "Sent" folder of the account it is sent from. But you can change this to be any folder in any account. For example, you could collect all sent mail from all accounts in the "Sent" folder of "Local Folders".

Exactly that is what we are going to learn in this article, that is how to specify Where Sent Mail Should be Kept in Mozilla Thunderbird.

To specify where copies of sent messages are kept in Netscape or Mozilla:

    * Select "Tools" | "Account Settings"... from the menu.

    * Go to the "Copies and Folders" sub-category of the desired account.

    * Make sure "Place a copy in:" is selected.

    * Choose "Other:".

    * Select the "folder" where sent messages should be kept.

These steps can be followed for Mozilla ThunderBird installed in Windows XP and Windows 7.

The spam filters in Mozilla Thunderbird can automatically move all the junk messages from your Inbox to the Junk folder.

Posted on 15:30 by Unknown

Unread emails from Friend? New messages with "histrionic" in them? All flagged mail in the inbox? In this article we are going to learn the same, that is how to Search the Current Folder or View Fast in Mozilla Thunderbird. These steps are easy to perform on your own.
Mozilla Thunderbird includes a fast, normally invisible way to find mail in the current folder. You can search the sender, recipient and subject for keywords and phrases, of course, but also narrow results to unread messages or emails containing attachments, for example.
Search the Current Folder or View Fast in Mozilla Thunderbird.

Steps to  Search the Current Folder or View Fast in Mozilla Thunderbird:

To find a certain message fast — by sender, subject, content, status and more — in Mozilla Thunderbird:

    * Press Ctrl-F (Windows, Linux) or Command-F (Mac).
    * Start typing the sought name, word or phrase.
    * To narrow your search, use the buttons under Quick Filter and Filter messages by:.
o Make sure only Sender is selected, for example, to find a certain contact's mail.
o Select the star to include only starred messages in your results.

If you find no result in the current folder, you can press Enter to search all folders with the same search term (but not your narrowing criteria).

These steps can be followed for Mozilla ThunderBird installed in Windows XP and Windows 7.

    * Select "Tools" | "Options"... or "Edit" | "Preferences"... from the menu.

    * Go to the "Composition" category.

    * Choose the "Spelling" tab.
