Leave a copy on server option

Posted on 10:00 by Unknown

If you download your mail from a POP account, Outlook Express will usually delete it immediately after retrieval. This has the advantage that the chance of incoming mail clogging up your account is pretty slim.

But leaving mail at the server (at least for some time) has advantages, too. You can re-retrieve accidentally deleted messages, or download mail to a different email client.
Leave a Backup of Mail at the Server with
Outlook Express.

To leave a copy of downloaded mail at the server with
Outlook Express:

    * Select Tools | Accounts… from the menu.

    * Highlight the desired email account.

    * Click Properties.

    * Go to the Advanced tab.

    * Make sure Leave a copy of messages on server is selected.

    * Click OK.

    * Click the Close button.

These steps can be followed for Outlook Express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc

Creating Vcard in Outlook Express

Posted on 14:00 by Unknown

Although "Business Card", the term used in Outlook Express, seems to suggest it, a vCard is not just for business. its your contact information sent to recipient where he can save with contact information in Vcard

The Usefulness of a vCard

A vCard is a generally useful thing containing contact and directory information that anybody can import in their address book easily. If you send a vCard with your emails in Outlook Express, the recipient can simply add this vCard to their address book and instantly has access to all your email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, your birthday (depending on how much of all that information you are willing to give away).

Steps to create a Business Card (vCard) in Outlook Express

Creating a vCard in Outlook Express amounts to creating an address book entry. So to create a vCard for yourself, you need to add an address book entry for yourself in Outlook Express:
  •     Select Tools | Address Book from the menu in Outlook Express.
  •     Click on New | New Contact.
  •     Enter all the information you want included with your vCard.
  •     Click OK.

That's it, you have just created a vCard for yourself in Outlook Express.Include Your vCard with Every Message. Now make sure the card is attached to outgoing emails you compose in Outlook Express. These steps can be followed for Outlook Express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc

Creating Rich text signature

Posted on 10:00 by Unknown

If you send your emails using rich HTML formatting in Outlook Express, the signature does not have to pale in plain letters beside the rest of your message.

Using HTML in your signature is not as straight forward as setting up a plain text signature, however. It is not even as easy as using HTML formatting in the rest of your message.

This is because HTML signatures in Outlook Express are outsourced and offshored to external files. But don't panic, here's how to do it. All you need is some basic HTML knowledge, though you'll do fine even without that.

Steps to use rich formatting in your email signature in Outlook Express:

  •     Create the signature's HTML code in your favorite text editor.
  •     Save it to an ".html" file in your My Documents folder.
  •     Select "Tools" | "Options"... from the menu.
  •     Go to the "Signatures" tab.
  •     Highlight the desired "signature".
  •     Make sure File is selected under "Edit Signature".
  •     Use the "Browse"... button to select the signature HTML file you have just created.
  •     Click "OK".
  •     Test your new signature.
These steps can be followed for Outlook Express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc

Multiple signatures for diffrent accounts

Posted on 04:30 by Unknown

Signatures are great fun in Outlook Express. You can set up as many as you want, and they can sport a good look or images even. Of course, Outlook Express can insert a default signature into every email you write automatically.

But how about when different Emails demand different Signatures?

But as the emails you send differ some are sent from your work account, some for fun, and some you craft as a special mailing list persona , so should your signatures. By default, and automatically.

you can assign each account in Outlook Express a default signature that will be used in preference to the overall default signature. A reply sent to a message received to your work account can bear the work signature, for example.

Steps to choose the default email signature for a particular account in Outlook Express:

  •     Select "Tools" | "Options"... from the menu.
  •     Go to the "Signatures" tab.
  •     Highlight the desired signature under "Signatures".
  •     Click "Advanced"... under "Edit Signature".
  •     Make sure all the email accounts for which you want the highlighted signature to be the default are checked.
  •     Click "OK".
  •     Click "OK" again.
These steps can be followed for Outlook Express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc

Posted on 14:00 by Unknown

Remember and typing the passwords for all the web sites, accounts, email accounts etc is a great exercise in memory created through repetitive typing.

But typing the password to your email account every time Outlook Express checks for new mail, that's a bit too much. •     Select "Tools" | "Accounts"... from the menu.

printing currently composing email

Posted on 10:00 by Unknown

In Outlook Express, it is not possible to print a new message that you are currently composing. There simply is no Print command in the File menu. You can, however, work around this shortcoming in Outlook Express.

you may need to print email which you have composed and want a hard copy for records before you send because it might be some important information. In this article our Texpert has explained a quick and easy workaround because "Print" option is not available in new message window.

Steps to print a message you are currently composing in Outlook Express:
  •     Select "File" | "Save" from the menu in the message you are composing.

  •     Highlight the message you just saved.
  •     Make sure the "preview pane" is "enabled".
  •     Select "View" | "Layout"... from the menu.

Printing mail in large font: Outlook Express

Posted on 04:30 by Unknown

Tiny type and feeble fonts are common among email clients. Fortunately, most software is designed to adapt to its user, and so you can easily increase the display size of fonts while reading mail in Outlook Express.

Why Outlook Express Prints Using Tiny Fonts?

printing the message that shows big and legibly on screen may lead to an unpleasant surprise: when printing, you seem to be stuck with Outlook Express' tiny fonts, no matter how much or little you increase the display font size.

This is only partially true. Because Outlook Express hand over the email to Internet Explorer for printing, you can configure the printing's result by changing the font size used by Internet Explorer, both for display and for printing.

Print a Message in a Larger Font in Outlook Express

Steps to use large font for printing a message in Outlook Express:
  •     Launch Internet Explorer.
  •     Select "Page" | "Text Size" (or "View" | "Text Size" if you have no Page toolbar icon) and the desired font size from the menu in Internet Explorer.
  •     Preferably set it to the same size you used for the message in Outlook Express.
  •     Print the message in Outlook Express.

Of course, you can return the font size in Internet Explorer to its previous setting once the printing is done to your satisfaction and these steps can be followed for Outlook express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc with Internet Explorer 6,7,8 etc

Printing email with background image

Posted on 21:30 by Unknown

when you send somebody a wonderful email using good stationery, they can see the glory on the screen, but if they want to print it, the background image is gone and much of the email's grace with it. What can you do?

If the recipient uses Outlook Express, there is a way to make it print background images. Outlook Express use the print settings of Internet Explorer, and Internet Explorer does not print background images by default because they usually waste a lot of ink while making the printout hard to read. This default can be changed (if only to print an email), though.

Print an Email Including Background Images in Outlook Express

Steps to print a message with its background images in Outlook Express:

  •     Open an Internet Explorer window.
  •     Select Tools | Internet Options... from the toolbar (or Tools | Options... from the menu).
  •     Go to the Advanced tab.
  •     Make sure Print background images and colors is checked under Printing.
  •     Click Apply.
Open the message you want to print in Outlook Express.
  •     Select File | Print... from the menu.
  •     Choose your options and click Print.
Optionally, change the Print background images and colors back to the off default in Internet Explorer and these steps can be used for Outlook Express installed in Windows XP, 2000, 98 etc
